Set Sail
04:31
|
|||
We started out as a body
There was nothing to see in me
But the body came to be fractured
And as each part began to breathe
I felt nothing at all
Until I exhaled and each cell came to life
Now one by one the fragments tessellate
With every moment high on a precipice
Staring into the face of it
I was gripping life with my fingertips
Learning how to lose control
And I felt nothing at all
Until I exhaled and at once realized
That there was nothing for me to decide
Cell walls came down
As we evolved without a sound
Time turns us on
As we turn into someone new
And a better reason pulls us through
With every color flushed from my face
There was nothing left to taste
I slipped into a second world
With everything I've done erased
And I felt nothing at all
My spirit so pale with no great vision to unveil
No prize left waiting for me to hold
As the sun climbed out of his bed
To pour a greeting over my head
I woke up with everyone else
To see my hours piled on the shelf
And I felt nothing at all
My spirit so pale with such a thirst to set sail
To make something of this day
Spinning wheels of stardust
And boundless galaxies above
I'm scaling down my bitterness
And scaling up my love
Cell walls came down
As we evolved without a sound
Time turns us on
As we turn into someone new
And a better reason pulls us through

Under My Feet
03:55

Grin and wear a mask
Budding leaves say this too shall pass
I heard the birds singing this morning
A familiar tune
Why'd it seem too soon
When the days carry on? They're just as fast
Keep the ground moving under my feet
Keep the sky blowing over my cheeks
Coming days will bring us something to see
'Til then just watch how you breathe
With a bright blue mask strapped across your face
Give that kid a cape
From Harlem to the beach
Keeping everyone's city in reach
I checked my watch, the time still goes by
We've got a lot of fight
Give today a chance
Outside our sidewalks say this too shall pass
I heard the bells calling in a new day
A familiar tune
But why'd it seem too soon
When every hour shoots me down with a dirty glance?
Keep the ground moving under my feet
Keep the sky blowing over my cheeks
Coming days will bring us something to see
'Til then just watch how you breathe
And I don't know if I've got another day in me
Every moment just feels like smoke in the chimney
Am I any match for the tumbling city?
Gotta lay down and focus on breathing
With a bright blue mask strapped across my face
Give that kid a cape
From Harlem to the beach
Keeping everyone's city in reach
I checked my watch, the time still goes by
We've got a lot of fight

Loophole

Who do you want to be near you
When the ball drops
When the world stops cold and you’re left with what you hold
And you’ve got something, only something
And everyone sees you but you don’t see them anymore
Is it still worthwhile being honest
About your feelings and what you don’t feel
‘Cause you’ve got some time and it’s not promised
But I promise you that when you can’t see me anymore...
I’m in the music
It was all a prelude
I’m in the music
It was all a prelude
And we’re always caught in a riddle
Spending hours in the middle
Burning out the day, but it’s not for what we say
It’s how we’re golden, and you’re so emboldened
Breathing in me while I am breathing you
And is the time and place always random
Each moment for ransom?
Where we are now, bearing in the window
And it’s magic, is it a loophole
That when there’s nothing left but time...
I’m in the music (on the tip of your tongue, at the first sip of sun)
It was all a prelude (in the earth that your fingers grip)
I’m in the music (on the tip of your tongue, at the first sip of sun)
It was all a prelude (in the earth that your fingers grip)
I’m in the music...
I’m in the music
It was all a prelude
I’m in the music
It was all a prelude

Tuck Me Away
02:27
|
|||
Tuck me away, tuck me away in the box by your bedside
There I will lie, there I will wait for your hours to run dry
Sherry and wine, poured for the lips of the prodigal child
Where did you go? It matters not to me
But when you fly home, will you still cling to me?
Powers that be, where is the power you said belonged to me?
Hours I read, hours I spend digging for the space to breathe
How do I know what is the succor in grace when I’m alone?
Where did you go? Of course it means everything
No shadow of home, no place to be seen
What do I say, how do I tie down the ends that you left to fray?
Can I explain though all things are new, nothing has changed
Chasing the moon, looking for glimmers of you across the room
Where did you go? It matters not to me
But when you fly home, will you still cling to me?

Scattered
03:27
|
|||
I wake up at the same time every day
And put the same old breakfast on my plate
I look outside and wonder what has changed
Then I put on like a sweater all that’s still the same
It’s alright, I know
Even when there’s nothing much to show for it
Each night I brush my teeth in the same old pattern
And look up to the moon and stars and Saturn
Alone in bed I leave all my thoughts to scatter
Then I sleep like tomorrow’s work will mean something more
And it’s alright, I know
Even when there’s nothing much to show for it
It’s alright, I know
Even when there’s nothing much to show for it
Well, maybe I just need some time away
A brand new view, a brand new world to taste
And maybe I just need some time away
A brand new view, a brand new world to taste
It’s alright, I know
Even when there’s nothing much to show for it
It’s alright, I know
Even when there’s nothing much to show for it
It's alright
